Funny Snow Face
Tamara Janes and Natalia Funariu explore the link between creation and artificial intelligence. The title of their project, Funny Snow Face, comes from a prompt submitted nearly 5000 times to DALL·E to generate countless images. These funny faces evoke the human act of drawing a head in the snow, formed simply by two dots and a line. The artists take a humorous look at their role in relation to AI. By placing these images on a curtain, they create a dialogue between the material and the immaterial, the domestic and the domotic. Presented in Le Couloir de L’Appartement – Espace Images Vevey, the installation highlights childlike gestures and the playful use of technology.

"With the same prompt "funny snow face", the DALL·E AI system is asked repetitively and in extremis. The input triggers the visualisation of an elementary human gesture in the snow: the representation of a face in its greatest possible reduction. The digital reproduction of a counterpart is reduced to absurdity through the trace of a human hand in the snow. An aesthetic experience whose representation is left to the AI system after the prompt.
Funny Snow Face is intended to initiate a dialogue about the evolving art landscape in the digital age. This work is a paradigm for this discussion. It shows the interplay between the tactile and the immaterial as the boundaries between the physical and the virtual dissolve. The work illustrates what it means to use AI systems as symbiotic partners of artistic creation in a world intertwined with technology". – Work description freely adapted from OpenAI(2023).ChatGPT(24.8.2023) and translated with DeepL.com (free version)
